Why does Discord want keystroke permissions? So the ‘push to talk’ key works

Installed the Discord Mac app and got this notification.

Hmmm. Why does it want my keystrokes?

Googled it and found 2 Reddit threads. In one a Discord employee says:

“We require accessibility permissions for systemwide push-to-talk to work. If you disable this permission, Discord will still function just fine, you’ll just need to open the app for your PTT hot key to function.”

Makes sense. However, is it safe? Well technically no. Do I trust Discord? Yes. To a point. Do I think they are going to record all my keystrokes and then sell the data. No. They are too busy running a legit company.
But it is nice to know why certain permissions are required.
