What is the symbol above the comma on a keyboard called? The left arrow thing?

TLDR: ‘Less than symbol’ or ‘Left angle bracket’

Depends on the keyboard layout, but for a normal US Qwerty keyboard, that symbol is usually a left angle bracket.

It can also be called a chevron.

There are lots of types of brackets. Square [], curly {}, angled <>, round ().

In text they are typically used in pairs.

Some would say that the easy to type angle brackets are not actually angle brackets, but are less than and greater than symbols.

‹› angle brackets

<> less than greater than symbols

To type the above angle brackets you can use Option-Shift-3, and Option-Shift-4 on a Mac.
