Talking points against renewable energy
Criticism #1 Renewables are cheaper, as measured by LCOE, therefore LCOE is flawed.
Renewable energy generation is cheaper in many cases than fossil fuel energy generation.
However, it is hard to directly compare the cost of a solar panel, to the cost of a coal power plant to the cost of a nuclear plant.
To help with this, a metric know as Levelized Cost of Energy or LCOE has been developed.
LCOE is calculated as sum of costs divided by sum of electricity produced.
LCOE includes building it, operating it, maintaining it, cost of fueling it, expected life cycle, costs of end-of-life disposal or salvage benefits etc.
Since renewable energy is so much cheaper than fossil fuels, some o
Wind is $29 per MWh. Solar is $36 per MWh. Coal is $60 per MWh.
Opponents of renewable energy have now started to criticize LCOE.
Specific Criticism: (LCOE) does not cover the full cost of an energy generation system.
