How to redirect a Namecheap Hosting Subdomain to Squarespace

Here is the short version

  1. Log into Cpanel
  2. Create subdomain
  3. Edit DNS Zones for the main domain
  4. Add the required CNAME records

However, each one of those has some gotchas.

1. Log into Namecheap Hosting Cpanel

It can be hard to find your Cpanel. You can access it by remembering some weird URL and password.

Luckily Namecheap makes it easier, just login > Click Hosting List > find the domain and click ‘Go to Cpanel’

2. Create subdomain

In Cpanel scroll down to the ‘Domains’ section and click ‘Domains’

Click ‘Create a New Domain’

Enter your subdomain.

Don’t worry about any of the file stuff, you can leave it on default, since we will be setting up a redirect anyway.

3. Edit DNS Zones for the main domain

In Cpanel scroll down to the Domains section and click on ‘Zone Editor’

It will show a list of your domains. Your subdomain WILL NOT show up, that is ok, just edit the primary domain the subdomain is on.

4. Add the required CNAME records

Now we need to add the DNS settings to the domain to connect it to Squarespace.

This is where most of the confusion happened. The Squarespace tutorial (linked below) is good, but doesn’t match the settings in the Namecheap Cpanel.
