I like to remember when I learned new things. I keep a running list on this twitter thread.

Here are the coolest 21 things I learned in 2021.

  1. In 1969 when Apollo 11 launched, a Catholic Church law stated that any discovered territory would fall under the bishopric from where the expedition left. Cape Canaveral was under the Orlando Diocese, so Bishop Borders of Orlando was the first Bishop of the moon. Source
  2. ‘b.i.d’ on your prescription means twice (two times) a day. It is an abbreviation for “bis in die” which in Latin means twice a day. Why Doctors write b.i.d instead of ‘twice a day’ I have NO idea.
  3. The global game industry is worth nearly 2x the global film industry. Source
  4. How to type the Pi symbol π on a Mac. Opt-P if you were wondering
  5. The movie Hook has a terrible Rotten Tomato score. 29%. Which makes no sense since everyone I talk to loves it if they have seen it and it has a 79% Audience score. Hook Rotten Tomatoes
  6. The International Space Station moves so quickly, that if you fired a rifle bullet from one end of a football field, the ISS could cross the entire field before the bullet traveled 10 yards. That is fast. Source: https://what-if.xkcd.com/58/
  7. If you are sent a package you didn’t order, you legally own it. You should contact the shipping company and they will come get it if it was for someone else. Source
  8. Learned about kismet, the Yiddish concept of fate. Source
  9. Learned about lunar swirls. Local magnetic fields 🧲 create lunar swirls which are brighter areas of the moons surface. The material within the swirls is protected from the constant weathering from solar wind and meteorites by the magnetic field. Source
  10. The 👌🏼 chefs kiss meme originated with the Swedish Chef on the Muppets, which I love. Source
  11. The oldest tofu company in America. Ota Tofu in Oregon. Makes we almost want to…
